It never gets too complex to compile panorama.
we use Adobe Photoshop CS6 with HDR plugin and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to touch up the photos before putting them to stitching process. For stitching we use microsoft ICE  and Photomerge to compile the 500 layers of overlapped images to produce a Seamless HDR quality Panorama. the quality of single panorama can be over 500Megapixels.
